I have left Madrid, but it still doesn’t feel real. I feel like it’s temporary, like I am going to hop back on a plane in a month or two. I know that it was the right decision not to renew, but I love Madrid and the Spanish lifestyle.
I recently saw this quote and it really struck me.
Leaving Madrid isn’t just about me leaving behind the people I met there, but also the person I was there. I can’t be the same person at home, because my surroundings have changed, as well as the people and the language barrier.
This is my ode to Madrid, my goodbye and another amazing year living abroad.
Good old Tio Pepe keeping watch over Puerta del Sol.
Your buildings are gorgeous and unforgettable.
I can’t forget the taste of those patatas bravas and alioli.
Madrid you kept it real.
You knew how to treat a girl to a good brunch. In fact you know how to treat a girl to all kinds of food.
You knew how to do sunsets right.
Ultimately you just wowed me with your gorgeousness, your liveliness and all the wonderful people who called you home.
I am going to miss you Madrid, but I will be back again to see you.
Hasta luego,
Lorena
